How I Miss Things I Have Never Known

My current favorite from ‘Love & Misadventure’ by Lang Leav. (I read the complete book a year ago. I read it whenever I am alone and I feel emotionally charged. My favorite has changed over the past year, depending on where I am personally in life, yes it’s been an adventure!)

Simple language makes these poems easy to understand unlike the classics. And the relatable emotions is what makes these poems memorable as they find a place in the readers’ lives. Thank you Lang Leav for providing a poem for almost every occasion.

Jolene and Philandro

Here is a stranger’s story of love- stepping into her small shoes.

We ate sausages and drank beer,
The song you sung, I can still hear.
Ten days went by in a flash,

So I packed my bags again,
To go to a new college, a feign.
None could tell that lay beneath,
Pretentious leaves of my heart’s heath.
Luck by my side, slid me with ease,
Into the land of wine and cheese.

As we tread, the cobblestone street,
Our shoulders brush, and eyes meet.
I can’t hold it anymore, and so can’t you.
I see it burn in your big eyes. Oh, phew!
You overwhelm my whole existence
Just how you promised, in your insistence.

I Found My Answer

I waited for you to kiss me.
In your stillness, I found my answer.

I waited for your hand to hold mine.
Seeing the phone in yours, I found my answer.

I waited for a word from you.
In your silence, I found my answer.

Before I could wait for something again,
I wrote this, and found my answer.

That’s life.
